The Government of Maharashtra has announced a fresh revision of Minimum Wages effective from 1 July 2026 (Notification No. ग्रा.वि./कि.वे.अ/वि.भ.जुल‑डिसेंबर 2026(2)/कार्या‑10/7997 dated 05/08/2026), applicable across all scheduled employments under the Minimum Wages Act, 1948. This bi‑annual revision reflects the state’s ongoing effort to align wage structures with inflation, cost‑of‑living changes, and sectoral economic conditions. The updated wage rates include revised Basic Wages and Special Allowance (VDA) and are notified separately for Zone I, Zone II, and Zone III, ensuring region‑specific wage protection for workers. Employers operating in municipal corporation areas, industrial belts, and cantonment zones fall under Zone I, while A and B grade municipal councils are classified under Zone II, and all remaining areas are covered under Zone III.
The July 2026 notification brings incremental increases across skilled, semi‑skilled, and unskilled categories in various industries such as Shops & Establishments, Motor Repair Workshops, Bakery Units, Textile Dyeing & Printing, Cotton Spinning & Pressing, and several other scheduled employments. These revised rates must be implemented immediately in payroll systems to ensure statutory compliance. Employers are also required to update wage registers, muster rolls, and display the revised wage notice at the workplace. Establishments employing more than fifty workers must additionally provide 5% House Rent Allowance (HRA) as mandated under the Maharashtra Workmen’s Minimum House Rent Allowance Act, 1983. Revised rates under the shops and establishment schedule employment are given below.
| Schedule of Employment | Categories of workers | Zone I | Zone II | Zone III |
| Shops & Commercial Establishments | Skilled | 15766 | 15170 | 14574 |
| Semi-skilled | 14990 | 14394 | 13798 | |
| Unskilled | 14155 | 13559 | 12962 |
With this revision, the state reinforces its commitment to fair wages and worker welfare. Non‑compliance may lead to penalties, back‑wage liabilities, and prosecution, making timely implementation essential for all employers and contractors. The July 2026 wage update serves as a reminder for organisations to regularly review their wage structures, maintain proper documentation, and ensure transparent communication with employees and outsourced staff. As Maharashtra continues its structured approach to wage regulation, businesses must stay aligned with these statutory changes to maintain smooth operations and uphold labour‑law compliance.
