Minimum Wages Revised in Uttar Pradesh – Effective October 1, 2025 – GD SN Co.

The Government of Uttar Pradesh has issued a revised notification under the Minimum Wages Act, 1948, applicable from October 1, 2025. This revision affects workers employed in 74 scheduled categories across the state and introduces updated wage rates based on the latest Variable Dearness Allowance (VDA). The VDA is calculated using the All India Consumer Price Index, which has increased from a base index of 216 (July–December 2012) to 414 (January–June 2025). This adjustment ensures that wages reflect current inflation trends and provide fair compensation to workers.

The revised wages apply to unskilled, semi-skilled, and skilled workers across sectors such as manufacturing, healthcare, education, hospitality, and construction. For example, an unskilled worker who previously earned ₹5750 as basic wage will now receive ₹5271 as VDA, resulting in a total monthly wage of ₹11,021. Similarly, semi-skilled and skilled workers will earn ₹12,123 and ₹13,580 per month respectively. These changes are mandatory for all registered establishments under the scheduled employments, including coaching centers, hospitals, petrol pumps, IT firms, dairies, and brick kilns.

The updated wage structure is summarized below:

In addition to general categories, the notification also revises rates for brick kiln workers. Pathera workers will now earn ₹700 per 1000 bricks, while Bharaiwala and Nikasiwala will receive ₹211 per 1000 bricks for work done within a 500-meter radius.

These sector-specific rates aim to standardize compensation and improve working conditions in labor-intensive industries.

Employers are advised to update their payroll systems, communicate the changes to their workforce, and ensure full compliance to avoid penalties. This revision is a proactive measure by the state government to protect worker welfare, promote statutory compliance, and ensure equitable labor practices across Uttar Pradesh.
