EPFO Wage Ceiling Raised to ₹25,000: A Major Boost for Employee Social Security – GD SN Co.

The Union Cabinet has approved a significant change in India’s social‑security landscape by increasing the EPFO mandatory wage ceiling from ₹15,000 to ₹25,000 per month. This decision is expected to bring over 51 lakh additional employees under compulsory EPF, EPS, and EDLI coverage—expanding formal social‑security protection across the workforce.

According to the official release, “Raising the ceiling to ₹25,000 will bring a substantial segment of employees in the ₹15,000–₹25,000 wage band within the statutory social security framework.”

This enhancement reflects India’s rising wage levels, growing formal employment, and the government’s long‑term vision for stronger retirement and insurance protection. Employers will now need to update payroll and compliance systems to align with the new threshold.

The Ministry of Labour & Employment and EPFO will soon initiate the statutory and administrative steps required for implementation.
